Being a Church School
Barby C of E Primary has been a Church of England school since its foundation and is now part of the family of schools within the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust having converted to Academy status on 1st July 2014.
'A place where we learn how to love God, one another and ourselves and to serve the community'
We follow the vision of the Church of England and deliver education that shows 'life in all its fullness'. This is reflected in our school vision and values.
We inspire children to reach their full potential as they journey through life; stimulating a thirst for knowledge, building confidence and resilience, and embracing Christian values.
To achieve this, we aim to:
- To provide a high quality, inclusive teaching and learning experience that enables children to achieve to the best of their ability.
- To provide a nurturing environment which allows the freedom for mistakes, providing opportunities to learn from them in order to build confidence and resilience.
- To live our Christian values across the school enabling children to grow and develop an understanding of life within a multi-cultural society
As a Church School our Christian ethos underpins every aspect of school life. Our Christian Values of Compassion, Courage, Fellowship, Thankfulness and Wisdom are a thread that run throughout our whole school; we aim to encourage children to demonstrate these and recognise them in others, celebrating and cherishing them as they are lived out.
St Mary's Church, Barby
We are pleased to have very strong links with St Mary’s Church in the village.
St Mary's Church is part of the benefice of Barby and Kilsby. It is part of the Daventry Team Ministry and is in the Diocese of Peterborough.
Reverend Alastair Wood was appointed as Team Vicar within the Daventry Team Ministry with special responsibilities for Barby and Kilsby Parishes.
Barby School has a very close relationship with St Mary's, with frequent visits into school from Reverend Alastair. The pupils and staff regularly attend services and activities throughout the year at the Church.
Throughout the year different classes are invited to participate in services in Church; the children take on roles such as readings and prayers as well as helping to explore the theme set for that month.
We regularly attend Church as a whole school for key Christian festivals and many of our families attend other services throughout the year, such as Harvest, Mothering Sunday, Christingle and Easter. These services often include songs the children have learnt in school, enhancing the links between church and school.
Reverend Alastair Wood regularly leads our Collective Worship and welcomes the children and the school community to visit the church and attend its services.
SIAMS
As a Church school, we do not only undergo Ofsted inspections but also the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS), also known as a Section 48 inspection. More information about these can be found on the Church of England website and our Performance page.
