FOBS (Friends Of Barby School)
Friends of Barby School (FOBS) is a fundraising team for Barby CE Primary School, working under the Parentkind framework. The committee is made up of parents, with support from the schoolteachers. Although our primary aim is to raise money, we also work to provide fun, social events for our children and their families as well as engaging the wider local communities.
A Typical FOBS Year
- Cinema Nights - the children stay after school to watch a film
- School Disco – with dress up themes such as World Book Day
- Easter Raffle and Bake Sale
- Childrens Bake Off – KS1 and KS2 baking competition
- Pop-up Café’s – selling produce and dishes grown by the children’s gardening club
- Themed Mufti Days – Christmas jumper or pyjama days
- Break the Rules – children choose rules to break in exchange for tombola gifts
- Christmas Cards
- Rotary Santa Collections – we accompany Santa on his journey around local villages
Volunteer numbers permitting, we love to hold fun Christmas Fayre’s and Summer Fete’s. These are big fundraisers packed full of games and stalls to suit both children and adults. In the recent past we’ve had a Santa’s Grotto and Elfridges Store, and we provide seasonal crafts and free games to play as a family.
What do we do with the funds we raise?
We create fun activities and enjoyment to provide lasting memories and ease the cost pressures on families by subsidising things like school trips. We support the school with learning resources such as money for new books and classroom fund pots and help to fund the school Christmas party. Each summer, our year 6 students receive a personalised hoodie and a leavers party to mark their final year at Barby CE Primary school. These are some of the ways we use the funds and every penny we raise is for the benefit our children and their families.
How can you help?
The FOBS committee is run by parent volunteers. We always need new committee members and willing helpers to support the organising and running of events. We meet once a term to plan and arrange future events and generate new ideas. The meetings are fairly informal and can be a good way to get to know other parents too.
